Godot and Ray Marching: Baked Potato Learning/Design Jam
All Chapters
Many of you have asked for more help with Godot, and Alex is stepping back into the breach!
Mondays, March 2 and 16th in Midtown, Atlanta and on Discord, Alex is hosting a Godot technical art work along with a baked potato bar and space to bring your own laptop for coding or design. With drinks and food you can expect the vibes of a game jam with none of the expectations of actually making anything if you want to hear Alex's ASMR YouTuber voice lull you to sleep as he talks through the joys (and struggles) of coding basic ray marching shaders. Ray marching with Alex is optional if you want to work on your own thing among friends (and potatoes!).
Skill level prerequisites: If you're following Alex, have Godot installed with a blank project open. If you've followed a few hours worth of intro to programming videos on YouTube, it'll be roughly that level. If you are an experienced programmer but have no idea what ray marching is, he'll be throwing out possible additions you can add to the code yourself.
Time: Since Alex can't help you hook up your laptop or serve baked potatoes once he starts streaming, try to arrive early if you want to eat baked potatoes or bring a laptop. People are welcome to hang out after!
Disability access: Unfortunately Alex's place is a third floor walk-up so there's only the stairs to get in. He'll try to make the Discord vibes include everyone, and you're welcome to share anything you're working on.
Why Care about Ray Marching: If you want smoke or clouds or fog or refractions or liquids to look beautiful or haunting or special or strange, ray marching might be the answer. It can be a great intro to tech art if you know absolutely nothing about tech art because it includes learning basic shader design. Or if you just have insomnia/anxiety and need to relax, there's a reason technical art shader videos rank on ASMR YouTube.
When: 6:30-9 pm March 2 and 16. Livestream starts at 7 pm.Arrive earlier (6-6:45pm) if possible for baked potatoes and hooking up your own laptop.
Where: GGDA Discord and YouTube, as well as in person at 1445 Monroe Drive NE, Apartment F-36, Atlanta GA 30324.
Parking: Walk from parallel spaces on Hillpine or grab a parking pass at the door to place on your dashboard.
