GGDA Changes for 2023

January 10, 2023

The GGDA and its members saw a lot of success in 2022 - another Best in Georgia contest, great presentations for SIEGE and CIMFest, in-person meetings and incredible networking at SIEGE, the holiday party, and DreamHack. As we begin planning for 2023, thanks to all of you who responded to our survey about what you want to see in the new year. We still welcome your feedback HERE

The most important change is that you asked for less frequent meetings that made a bigger impact. Almost 60 percent of you said you preferred quarterly meetings, with game business being a preferred topic of 81 percent of you. When it comes to game engines, 44 percent of you want sessions on Unity, and 25 percent want sessions on Unreal.

While we did not ask about game showcases, several of you said you would like to see more. If you have specific games you would like to see, let us know at info@ggda.org.

We are already using this feedback to plan our 2023 meetings. We are starting off Jan. 17 with our annual game jam prep meeting (more info on this hybrid event later in this newsletter). At your request, we are also adding virtual presentations on specific game dev tools and techniques (again, later in this newsletter). Other events we have already scheduled include:

  • Feb. 17 Scholastic Gaming and Esports Conference in Columbus Georgia.

  • April 11 annual Best in Georgia meeting and awards (looking for a location)

  • June 17 Columbus Interactive Media Festival

  • Sept. 12 pre-SIEGE meeting

  • Dec. 15-17 DreamHack

We are interested in any and all suggestions you may have. Submit them at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd4raaG9nnIo5ICQKtEgBJ3_tdLMwgEvoCdrOl0W4ncqb8SKA/viewform?usp=sf_link
