Leveraging Open Source AI Tools for Game Asset Creation and Editing

Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly being utilized to create a variety of artistic assets. While there is still controversy regarding its usage in game development, commercial and proprietary software such as Adobe Firefly in Photoshop have integrated these tools and services into their offerings and workflows. Furthermore, many developers have created free and low cost alternatives as part of existing open source software.

In this presentation, we will review AI asset creation features and plug-ins for popular open source applications such as Krita, GIMP, and Blender. This talk will cover both the technical implementation of the algorithms as well as practical applications in asset creation workflows. We will also discuss the legal and ethical considerations when utilizing generative AI in asset creation, including relevant court decisions.
